Wallington URC is currently without a serving minister. Rev Russell Furley-Smith from Purley URC has been appointed by Southern Synod to act as Interim Moderator pending the induction of a new incumbent.
The Southern Synod Pastoral Committee has recommended that Wallington should form part of a joint pastorate with St Andrew's Cheam. The two churches have been working together since early in 2018 to develop this new relationship.
Rev Craig Bowman 'preached with a view' at St Andrew's Cheam on April 28-29 and at Wallington on May 4-5. Both churches were overwhelmingly in favour of issuing a call and Craig has kindly accepted that call. His induction will take place at St Andrew's on Saturday November 30, and we look forward to working with both him and St Andrew's as we move into the next stage of the life of Wallington URC.
Craig began training to be an architect, but later spent time as a volunteer with Time for God. He was also heavily involved in the URC National Youth Assembly (FURY as it was known then). Following the call to ministry, he studied at Northern College, Manchester, and was ordained as a URC minister in September 1989. He ministered at Emmanuel URC, Haydon Wick (1989 - 1996) and Glenorchy URC in Exmouth (1996 - 2008). Since 2008 he has been been the Secretary for Ministries in the United Reformed Church, and thus he brings brings a great breadth of experience to his new role.
Craig, Louise and Thomas have been a part of the Wallington congregation for around 10 years, living in Carshalton while he has been Secretary for Ministries. Over that time Craig has led worship and ministered for us on many occasions.
